பறை (Parai)

Parai  பறை It is a very important instrument in the worship of Muththumari amman. It's made of a kind of leather. The term Parai is derived from the word Arai which is denoting the meaning talk. It's not only a instrument but also a assert of Tamil society. According to the sounds of the Parai, it can devided as poer parai, manat parai, veriyaaddu parai, saar parai, kovil parai and mangala parai. This Parai instrument is using in Temple for Kavadi, Karakam and Saami aaddam. "Parai" and "Thappu" are different from one another. Now a days we can see the Parai during temple pooja, funeral house and some cultural programmes. But it's a rare art in Tamil society because of the prestige problem. The people who are playing the Parai has been seperated by the society based on cast system. That's why they are unwilling to do Parai in the contemporary society.

காவடி (Kavadi)

Kavadi  காவடி Kavadi also one of the art which is related to the folk culture. Kavadi is helding to fullfill the vow to the diety. There are so many kinds of Kavadi such as Paal kavadi, Panneer kavadi, Pushpa kavadi, Aanantha kavadi, Sakkarai kavadi, and Santhana kavadi. Paal kavadi and Mud kaavadi are mostly practicing in Eastern province of SriLanka. And Thookku kavadi is practicing in the notern part of SriLanka.  The person who are having Kavadi, he'll have a small size of lance and according to his vow he'll having 10 or 15 picks on his back side. And he'll move according to the song which is singing by others. Finally people believe the god will give a condescension to the person who is having kavadi. We can also identify through his movements.

கண்ணகி வழிபாடு (Worship of Kannaki)

Origin Of Kannaki Worship கண்ணகி வழிபாட்டின் தோற்றம் Introduction of Kannaki amman Worship into ceylon by king Gajabahu 1, after that it became very popular in the all over the world. King Gajabahu was an invited guest of the Chera king was also present at the consecration ceremony. His fervent prayer to Pattini Devi that she would visit ceylon and blessed with her presence the festival to be celebrated in her honor,was granted to him. King Gajabahu on his return to ceylon raised temples and altars to make daily offerings to Pattini Devi and instituted the conducting of grand and gorgeous processions along the street of his capital city Anuradhapura in the month of Adi  (July-August). The common worship of Kannaki amman by both Tamil and Sinhalese(Pattini Devi). 

நாட்டு கூத்து (Naadu koothu)

Naadu Koothu நாட்டு கூத்து Koothu is a traditional tamil cultural art form. It is a mixture of dance and drama. Koothu is depict scenes or story from ancient epic such as Ramayana, Mahabharatha and etc. There are no any dialogues, meanwhile only they are using songs. Artists have to sing in their own voice and in a high pith because to reach a entire crowd. Traditionally male have been participated and they have a  dominant role in koothu but step by step female have been started to participate in koothu. There were any institution or schools to train the artists. The teacher of koothu is called as "Nattuvanar". There are so many kinds of koothu in SriLanka. The koothu is different from region to region. Especially naattu koothu(Vadamodi and Thenmodi), Vasanthan koothu, parai koothu, mahidi koothu are famous in eastern province at the same time Archunan thapasu is famous in hill country. Let's we have a watch on Koothu which is famous in Eastern province.

தாலாட்டுப்பாடல் (Lullaby)

Songs Of Motherhood தாய்மையின் பாடல் Folk songs are interrelated with human's day today life. Folk songs are categorised according to the human's activities. Such as lullaby songs are created by mothers to get  a baby sleep, love songs are created to express their affection and feelings and some songs are created to sing during the working time and during play a games to chase the tiredness and get a boost to continue their activities without laziness. Let's we see about lullaby song. Lullaby songs used to sing to get a baby sleep. They are always using upgraded words in lullaby. In tamil it is called as  "தாலாட்டு". "தால்" means tongue. So these songs are singing specially the use of tongue to create a different kind of rythm. It's a depiction of motherhood.
