தெரு கூத்து Street Drama Street drama is a one of the folk media. It helps to inform and make an awareness about the current issues in the society. It communicates in a low budget and even uneducated people also understand the performance. Every year street dramas are perfomed by 3rd year students of communication studies for the Folk Media subject. In this year also we have taken three themes in order to make a people aware. Such as suicide, impact of social media and disadvantages of mobile phones.

கொம்புமுறி விளையாட்டு (Kompumuri Game)

Kompumuri Game கொம்புமுறி விளையாட்டு Kompumuri is the art performance including both entertainment and competition. It is also emerged after the arrival of the worship of Kannaki. There are two groups participate in this game. Such as Vadaseri and Thenseri. Vadaseri group represents Kovalan at the same time Thenseri group represents Kannaki. The competition is  breakup the powerful horn which is made of the special strengthen tree. Each group has a unique horn to represents their group. They must follow the ritual rules and regulations to participate in this game. And the horn should be protect in a devoted manner. Vadaseri group try to break a Thenser's horn meanwhile Thenseri group try to break Vadaseri's horn. The group which is break the other group's horn will beconsidered as a winners. If anybody get victory the game will be continued until they attain their victory. Eventually the winners will perform dance and windup the game.

மகிடி கூத்து (Mahidi Koothu)

Mahidi Koothu மகிடி கூத்து Mahidi Koothu also emerged after the emergence of worship of Kannaki. This is a performance with full of humour. And it contains the power of Mantra. It's very popular in Batticaloa specially in Vantharumoolai, Kommathurai and etc. The humor reveals through the way they act and they have to sing and talk by themselves. Sallari, Mathalam also used as a musical instruments. It has been performed to chase the tiredness of the people and chase their sadness through the humour.

வசந்தன் கூத்து (Vasanthan Koothu )

Vasanthan Koothu வசந்தன் கூத்து Vasanthan songs are very popular in eastern province. These Vasanthan Songs have been emerged with the origin of the worship of Kannaki Amman. Kannaki Worship is derived from India and it has been emerged in srilanka also through the rulingredients of King Kajabahu. In India Vasanthan Koothu has emerged in the place "Aayar paadi" where the place of cow herd. After the incident that the Kannaki's husband Kovalan was killed in unfair way, Kannaki got angry and she started to expunged every place in India except "Aayar paadi". So the people who are lived in Aayar paadi danced togethered to decrease the angry of Kannaki.  Thenafter it has been performed during the season of April and May after the harvesting for their relaxation. The children who are between 12-14 age can perfom this art. It's a very difficult kind of dance, that's why the youngers only can do this because of the difficult steps. Now a days it o
